SOCIAL MEDIA POWERFUL WAY TO BRING POSITIVITY DURING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC

Abstract

During a time of social distance and limited contact with others, social media became an important place to interact. Social media platforms are meant to connect people and helped the world remain connected, largely increasing usage during the pandemic. With the advent of social media in the 21st century, not only are we learning the latest news updates, but we’re also using platforms like Facebook and Twitter to provide personal and business updates. For businesses, this means leveraging social media to support employees and customers like never before. For the government, it means doing its best to efficiently share factual and up-to-date information.


Objective: The aim of the study is to determine Impact of social media during covid-19 pandemic


Methods: To carry out this study, an online questionnaire was prepared and conducted in India, Maharashtra and a total of 150 social media users were sampled.
Results: Participants reported that social media played a significant role in society. Outbreak of COVID-19 among Indian people create fearful atmosphere with a potential negative influence on people’s mental health and psychological well-being. Still some people choose to live with positivity and share positivity. As per our study Instagram was the most used social media network for spreading positivity about the COVID-19in Maharashtra. Majority of respondent are having age group between 18-35years. We found a significant positive statistical correlation between self-reported social media use and positive information. Our result showed that the majority of youths aged 18-35 is satisfied with the social media post, news and messages.


Conclusion During lockdown, people are using social media platforms to gain information about COVID-19. The nature varies depending on an individual's gender, age, and interest.  Social media has played a key role in publishing positive social practices.
